The Coega Development Corporation, in the Eastern Cape, has signed a technical agreement with capital management firm Provest to support the development of a pioneering logistics platform and industrial complex in Luanda, Angola.

The Barro do Dande Free Trade Zone (FTZ) is poised to become a transformative industrial hub in the region, designed to drive intercontinental and international trade, attract foreign and domestic investment in sectors such as agroprocessing, mining supplies and logistics, as well as promote regional development through beneficiation.

The FTZ aligns with Angola’s broader economic advancement objectives and those of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Speaking at a signing ceremony of the agreement on January 28, Coega client solutions programme director Dr Siyabonga Simayi said the parties had agreed to jointly put their expertise and experience into the development and operation of FTZ, adding that the developer and operator, Quimera Logistics, would lead the establishment of an agroprocessing cluster, a multimodal logistics hub and a petrochemical industrial complex.

Quimera has secured the necessary approvals and licences to advance these projects.

“This partnership represents a significant opportunity for Coega to extend its African footprint, contribute to regional industrialisation and support the goals of the AfCFTA.

“The collaboration also reflects Coega’s ongoing commitment to enabling sustainable, high-impact industrial development across the continent,” Simayi concluded.
